My Story
I realized a 8 years ago with the purchase of my first home, that there was a large need for new home buyers to have some options when it came to purchasing a new or used home. I had been looking for 12 months and looked at over 70 homes with a really honest and knowledgeable realtor. Most of the homes I had looked at had issues, some of them were major issues, yet people were still buying them way above the asking price. A lot of the homes at the time didn't have any home inspections performed, so a lot of the issues weren't brought to light. I followed up on some of the homes and found out that the new owners had overpaid on most of the houses that were in need of major work. This left a lot of the new home buyers in a tough spot, now having to deal with all the issues and financial costs that came along with the new purchase.
I personally know a few friends that bought a home they thought was in good shape, later to find that there was a lot of problems covered up either by the previous owner or by a person flipping the home. If you've ever heard the expression putting some lipstick on a pig doesn't change what it is, well...this was the unfortunate reality here with these homes. I found out there are a few groups of renovators flipping homes, cutting corners and attempting to cover up major issues. I actually viewed several of these properties myself and couldn't believe what I was seeing. If you aren't sure exactly what to look for there is a good chance you could miss something crucial when viewing a property. Most provinces in Canada require that home inspections be done by a Certified Home Inspector in order to get a mortgage. Unfortunately, Manitoba and Saskatchewan are a little behind and are the only two Provinces that don't require certification of an inspector or an inspection. After finding all of this out, I wanted to do something to make a real difference so that people didn't have to be caught in that kind of tough position again. So, I went back to school and found the best home inspector training course I could find and became Nationally Certified to inspect homes across Canada.
I am really excited to share my knowledge with soon-to-be new homeowners and help give them the peace of mind they are looking for when making one of the biggest decisions in their life. I would love to hear from you with any questions you might have about your next purchase or renovation.
